Kinderchurch (3yrs-Kinder)

Growing together in God’s love

Kinderchurch in a nutshell

The Kinderchurch program is available for all 3.5 to 5 year olds to learn and play while their parents attend Mass. The focus of the ministry is to lay the foundation of the Catholic Church through an age-appropriate play-based format.

Our curriculum

The St. Theresa curriculum is a set of lessons that follows the letters of the alphabet. Each week a new letter is introduced and that letter corresponds to a religious theme. (Weekly themes on inner fold.)

Special attention is given to major holidays and seasons within the Catholic Church, such as seasons of Advent, Lent, Christmas, and Easter. Each lesson will give your young one a better understanding of what it means to be Catholic all year long.

Kinderchurch provides a loving place to have fun, so creative things, and learn (in their own words) what is being taught in the Masses. We hope you will join!

Who can join

Any child age 3.5 to 5 that is fully toilet trained and ready to learn can join the Kinderchurch program.

Where it happens

Classes are held in the Church Hall, which is in the basement of the church.

Parent volunteers

We welcome all parents of Kinderchurch students to assist with classes throughout the year. It is always wonderful to have an extra set of adult hands to help with the crafts, keep the children focused and engaged, and direct student volunteers.

St. Theresa is dedicated to creating a safe environment for all children and therefore adult parish volunteers who work with children must complete the Virtus Online training in order to serve at Kinderchuch. Training can be completed at virtusonline.org.

When it happens

Classes are held during the 9 am Mass, with drop off starting at 8:45. A complete schedule of 2018-2019 dates is located on the back of this brochure.

How to register

There is a $35 annual fee per child and a form to complete when registering your child. Registration can be completed during any Kinderchurch class or online using the link on the parish website- sttheresaoakland.org

Student volunteers

Student service hours can be completed in a fun and fulfilling way at Kinderchurch classes. Students can assist with classroom set up, play with the children during free play, engage them during circle time, assist with craft, help serve snack, and clean up the room at the end of class.

We can accommodate up to 3 student volunteers per class and sign up can be accomplished through Sign Up Genius. Students must bring their Service Learning Form to each volunteer session.
