Lent, a Time of Prayer, Fasting and the Giving of Charity
Prayer
"Always be joyful; pray constantly; and for all things give thanks; this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus."
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Opportunities:
Fasting:
"This, rather, is the fasting that I wish: releasing those bound unjustly, untying the thongs of the yoke; Setting free the oppressed, breaking every yoke; Sharing your bread with the hungry, sheltering the oppressed and the homeless; Clothing the naked when you see them, and not turning your back on your own."
Isaiah 58:6-7
The Giving of Charity:
"Set aside part of your goods for almsgiving. Never turn your face from the poor and God will never turn his from you. Measure your alms by what your have; if you have much, give more; if you have little, do not be afraid to give less in alms."
